Get to know me!
Hi, I’m Sarah, welcome to Candle in the Kitchen!

A Bit about Me:
Originally from the UK, I have called France home for over 20 years now. I live with Thierry, my wonderful French husband who doubles as my primary taste tester, along with our four lively kids – one girl and three boys. They keep me on my toes, but they also inspire every dish I create!
I love cooking, sharing food with family and friends, especially beautiful loaves of sourdough bread. As someone navigating food allergies within my own family, I have learnt how to adapt recipes to make them allergy-friendly, while not compromising on taste.

As a Christian, it is so important to me to welcome others to my table and to set before them a meal that will nourish them and foster conversation and relationship. I want to share what I have learned over the past several years and hopefully encourage others in the process.
Why Candle in the Kitchen?
As a musician by trade, I thrive when I am creating. While my musical pursuits have taken a backseat since welcoming our fourth child, I’ve discovered a new artistic outlet in the kitchen. It is where you can expect to find me most of the day, cooking, working, gathering as a family over meals, and yes, there is often a candle flickering, making it the heart of our home.

For a long time, dealing with the allergies of my children was a huge challenge and it seemed insurmountable to be able to cook the food they needed. For almost 10 years I have acquired a lot of experience that has enabled me to provide food for my family and even enjoy the process. For me, a candle represents light and hope, and my aim is to pass this on to other families walking through allergy diagnosis.
Even for those not dealing with allergies, cooking from scratch might seem unattainable due to time and financial constraints. My aim is to help you on your journey to providing wholesome, homemade food for your family. There is hope!

What you’ll discover:
At Candle in the Kitchen, you will find simple recipes designed to empower you to cook wholesome meals from scratch for your family. Many of these recipes will offer gluten and dairy-free alternatives, ensuring that everyone can gather around the table and enjoy a homemade meal together.
My recipes will have French and British influences of course, but I love food from all around the world, so expect to find curries, Thai food, fajitas as well as desserts, cakes and, of course, bread.

I have become very passionate about sourdough in the past couple of years, so you will find plenty of bread recipes and tips for making the most of your sourdough starter.
Beyond recipes, I’ll also share practical resources like meal planning ideas and DIY cleaning products that have helped streamline my busy life and save both time and money.

Join Me on the Journey:
I’m excited to have you join me as I continue to learn, create, and share my adventures from my kitchen. Whether you’re navigating food allergies, seeking inspiration, or taking your first steps as a home cook, Candle in the Kitchen is here to light the way!
